Australia have announced a 12 man squad that will face South Africa in the third and final test between the two teams at Adelaide Oval.
There are 6 inclusions with Queensland opener Matt Renshaw, Victorian batsman Peter Handscomb, New South Wales batsman Nic Maddinson, Victorian Wicket Keeper Matt Wade, Tasmanian fast bowler Jackson Bird and South Australian paceman Chadd Sayers all picked.
Meanwhile, Joe Burns, Adam Voges, Callum Ferguson, Peter Nevill and Joe Mennie have been dropped as a result from Australia’s poor performances in the first two tests.
The batting inclusions are young and upcoming players with Handscomb being 25 years old, Maddinson 24 years old and Renshaw only 20 years old. However, these three have started this season’s Sheffield Shield well.
Handscomb, a right handed middle order batsman is the leading run-scorer in the competition with 363 runs at an average of 90 which includes a score of 205 against New South Wales.
Maddison, a left-handed middle order batsman scored a century against Western Australia and has so far scored 155 runs with an average of 38.
Renshaw, a left-handed opener was included after a century in the first innings, then followed by a half-century in the second innings against South Australia. He has so far made 158 runs with an average of 79.
Matt Wade is back as the number 1 wicket-keeper and has already played 12 tests for Australia which includes 2 centuries.
Chad Sayers gets a spot in the squad after an amazing display at Adelaide Oval against Tasmania where he took 11 wickets for the match.
Jackson Bird has been consistent for a couple of years and has earned a recall. He has played five tests for Australia already including figures of 5/59 in an innings against New Zealand earlier this year.
The day-night third test at Adelaide Oval will begin on Thursday.
