Gold Coast’s Dion Prestia has signed for Richmond on a 5 year contract.
Richmond gave away pick 6 and next year’s second round pick in exchange for Prestia and pick 24.
This trade has been coming for sometime after he requested a trade to Richmond a few weeks ago.
Prestia was drafted at pick 9 in the 2010 AFL Draft and was one of the players in the inaugural Gold Coast team.
He has played 95 games, kicked 30 goals and became a consistent midfielder for the club.
He averages 23 disposals, 4 clearances and 9 contested possessions throughout his whole career which proves that he is a tough inside midfielder that can win plenty of the ball.
Richmond needed some quality players to add to their list which is lacking depth and Prestia will add to their midfield.
The concern will be his previous injuries he has sustained as he has only managed just 22 games in the past 2 years. It is a risk to sign him to a 5 five deal but given his proven record when he has been on the field, it is a risk worth taking.
Their top end midfield looks stronger as Prestia joins Martin and Cotchin but Richmond need to develop youngsters next season if they want the club to move forward in the right direction.
