After a couple years chasing him, Fremantle finally got their man in GWS key forward Cam McCarthy as he signed a 3 year deal to come back home to WA in exchange for pick 3.
Fremantle also gained picks 7, 33, 71 as they were still able to keep a pick in the top 10 but now finally signed a key forward.
Fremantle wanted him last trade period but were not able to get a deal done with GWS.
As a result, McCarthy was absent throughout the whole 2016 season due to being homesick and trained at WAFL club South Fremantle.
He was drafted at pick 14 in the 2013 AFL draft and had a great 2015 season by playing 21 games and kicking 35 goals.
Fremantle will be hoping McCarthy can fit into the squad straight away but the issue will be around him missing a year of AFL and whether he can pick up the pace of the league again.
Nevertheless, he is a signing Fremantle needed due to the lack of key forwards and potentially, can be a dominant forward with his marking and goalkicking ability.
They still maintain a top 10 pick in this upcoming draft so this deal at the moment is a win for the Dockers.
