Dimitri Payet showed last season of what he is capable of for West Ham which caught the attention of many English Premier League fans.
His skill, playmaking ability and his trademark free-kicks wowed fans as the Hammers climbed to 7th place at the end of the season to allow an opportunity for a birth in the Europa League.
This season has started nearly the worst possible way for West Ham as they missed out on qualifying for the Europa League and sit in the relegation zone on 4 points with just 1 win in 7 matches.
Their only win came at the London Stadium against Bournemouth who went down to 10 men and had to produce a late winner to grab a 1-0 victory.
If it wasn’t for Payet, West Ham would not have got a draw against Middlesbrough after an amazing solo run goal to equalise.
He was also the difference in making through the next round of the EFL Cup after scoring a free kick late in the game against Accrington Stanley to clinch a 1-0 win.
Payet and fellow midfielder Michail Antonio look like the only players that has continued last season’s form for West Ham but at the moment, it is simply not enough and they need more contributors.
They have missed left back Aaron Cresswell, striker Andy Caroll and new signing Jordan Ayew through injuries but that is still no excuse for their performances this season so far.
It is a team game and you cannot rely on one or two players to get you out of a hole, even if one of those players are as skillful as Dimitri Payet.
Results need to come now from manager Slaven Bilić and his team or else a relegation battle could be on the cards.
Payet will continue to show his class. Antonio will continue to work hard for the team. Now it is time for the rest of the squad to step up and join them in helping West Ham climb up the table.
