Internationally capped Socceroo James Holland will end his seven year stint in Europe and return to the A-League after coming to terms with Champions Adelaide United.
The experienced midfielder arrives after his contract expired with MSV Duisburg and with him he brings an air of reassurance that the raided midfield of Adelaide United won’t start the campaign without adequate support.
The Reds lost Championship winning talent in Bruce Kamau, Stefan Mauk, Jimmy Jeggo and Craig Goodwin throughout last year and with injuries to Sergio Cirio and Marcello Carrusca, his arrival is most welcome. Able to play as a fulcrum in the midfield, a ball playing centre midfielder and if needed at right full back. Holland arrives possessing qualities of Mauk, Jeggo and Goodwin and gives coach Gui Amor more flexibility amongst a ‘new team.’
Capped by the Socceroos 15 times, Holland’s addition to the Red’s adds another level of class and experience to an outfield that was looking incredibly depleted so close to the start of the season.
Holland’s arrival, along with the addition of Sergi Guardiola and the (seemingly) impending arrival of Danny Choi as an injury replacement will give Gui Amor and the Red’s faithful something to hold onto as their title defence draws closer.
