Lachie Neale has signed a new 3 year deal to stay with the Fremantle Dockers.
There were plenty of speculation this year on Neale’s future as his contract was expiring at the end of the season. Clubs from South Australia and Victoria were interested in luring him but Neale will stay a Docker until at least the end of 2019.
The midfielder was a pick 58 in the 2011 draft and is now emerging into one of the elite midfielders in the league. He has played 84 games since his debut in 2012.
He is in career best form this season, averaging 32 disposals, 16 contested possessions, 4 tackles and 6 clearances per game. He is currency one of the favourites to take out Fremantle’s best and fairest award this season.
This re-signing is great news for Fremantle given the quality he brings to the team. He is still only 23 so he has plenty of years in him. He is now a more consistent player and with the return of Nat Fyfe next season, they could form a strong partnership in the midfield that can frighten many opposition midfielders in the years to come.
This is a re-signing that had the makings of a make or break for Fremantle’s premiership hopes in the next few years. They will be now glad that they have Neale for the next 3 years and hope he can help Fremantle return to the finals next season.
