Real Madrid won 1-0 on aggregate

An own goal from Manchester City’s Fernando was enough to give Real Madrid the win and move into their 14th Champions League final. It did not start well for Manchester City with their captain Vincent Kompany subbed off in the 10th minute with an injury and this gave Real Madrid a chance to score. The goal came in the 20th minute when Gareth Bale put a cross in the box which was deflected in by Fernando to give Real Madrid a 1-0 lead. Throughout the game, Madrid began to dominate the match and only a few occasions that Sergio Aguero was able to get the ball and Manchester City to create chances. The game ended 1-0 which was enough for Real Madrid to move into the final.

2-2 on aggregate but Atletico won on away goal

Bayern Munich were able to score a 2-1 win but an away goal from Antoine Griezmann has sent Atletico Madrid to the final. Bayern dominated possession and shots and scored the first goal in the 31st minute due to a freekick from Xabi Alonso that was deflected in. A few minute later, Thomas Muller had a golden opportunity to double their lead with a penalty but missed. It looked like Bayern Munich were going to run over this match but a wonderful pass from Fernando Torres was able to open up Antoine Griezmann  1 on 1 with Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer in which he capitalised on in the 54th minute and made it 1-1. Robert Lewandowski made the leg interesting when he scored in the 74th minute but Bayern needed another goal if they wanted to make the final. Atletico held strong in defence and were able to hold on to move into the final.

It will be the second time in 3 years that Spanish rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will face off in the Champions League final. The last one was in 2014 in which was won by Real Madrid 4-0. The final will be played at the San Siro in Milan on May 29.
