Mateo Kovacic to Tottenham, would it take them one step closer?

With the Croat feeling the squeeze at Real Madrid, there are not shortage of suitor’s lining up for his services, not the least Tottenham Hotspurs. Ponchetinno is a big fan of the creative midfielder and with the Spurs on the cusp of something special, could his addition be what pushes them over the hump they have struggled to clear for so long

Rather abruptly moved on from Inter Milan to an already well equipped and talented Real Madrid midfield, it was always going to be tough for the youngster to adapt and excel. Kovacic possesses a rare blend of brute strength and raw creative talent. Predominately a creative attacking midfielder, at a stretch he can play in front of the defense, a similar player to the likes of Michael Carrick, David Silva, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and others of that ilk.

Having managed to eek out 21 games for Real Madrid, its clear that he is looked upon well, but is down the pecking order in the midfield stakes. Sitting behind the likes of Ronaldo, Bale, Kroos, James and Modric, he is not going to get the consistency of games any player looks for. Such a prediciment is what makes a mooted move to Tottenham so appealing.

Now, I’m not trying to say the Spurs midfield is not talented, but its not at the same level as the Madrid midfield. At the spurs, he is competing with players such as Nacer Chadli, Clinton N’jie and Moussa Dembele; three players which he would usurp in a starting lineup.

Should the rumors pan out, the Spurs, who are enjoying their best ever season could lineup like this: Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Trippier, Bentaleb, Dier, Kovacic, Eriksen, Lamela, Kane. The addition of Kovacic, who at his best is level with the performances of Eriksen and Lamela of this season would no doubt make them a better team, as he did when he was regularly playing for Inter Milan.

Now of course, one man does not always equate to a title, but, the addition on Kovacic would certainly aid the Spurs in sustaining the performances they have produced this season. On the brink of something special, Tottenham look as if they will be beaten to the title by Leicester, but, under the guidance of Mauricio Ponchetinno, they will look to go one further next year, and there is little doubt Kovacic could help that happen.
