SBS and Optus have reached an agreement regarding broadcasting English Premier League matches. SBS will be able to broadcast one EPL match each round from the 2016-17 season for the next three seasons and also able to reply all matches within 72 hours. Optus bought the EPL rights from Fox Sports earlier this year as they made a higher bid.
This is great for free to air TV viewers as next season, they can watch EPL matches without paying extra. There are a lot of EPL fans in Australia that don’t have foxtel so many viewers will be thrilled about this agreement. In contrast, Foxtel viewers may feel a little disappointed that next season they can’t watch every match live and have to watch only 1 game live every weekend on SBS.
They also reached an agreement regarding broadcasting the 2018 FIFA World Cup. SBS will be able to broadcast one game live per day and they can pick any game they want to broadcast.
This is a positive step for SBS as they will be able to broadcast Australian and International matches to their viewers in which the fans have demanded for some time.
Everyone embrace yourself for sitting on the couch because there’s plenty of football heading your way.
