SQUAD: MS Dhoni (capt, wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Harbhajan Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Pawan Negi, Ashish Nehra, Hardik Pandya.
India have picked their A-Team, and rightly so, tournament favourites in the eyes of many in their own backyards, why wouldn’t they? A well-rounded team, with batting explosiveness and depth as well as a bowling unit full of wicket takers, this is their world cup to lose.
The usual suspects will run riot with the bat, Dohni, Dhawan, Sharma and Kohli will bear the load at the top of the order, with other role players such as Rahane, Yuvraj and Suresh Raina providing strong support further down the order. If anyone of these six is making over 50 runs an innings, they’ll win most games.
Their bowling contingent is just as strong, with Shami, Ashwin, Jadeja and returning legend Harbhajan Singh, you’d expect them, in their own conditions to have their way with most teams. Much like the batsmen, if any of these bowlers is getting 2 or 3 a game, they’ll be extremely difficult to beat.
